T&D Europe welcomes the European Grids Package as a next step in the transition. The Commission clearly recognises the central role of electricity in enabling the energy transition and is addressing some of the challenges Europe’s critical infrastructure is facing, such as planning, permitting and visibility. However, the proposals in the Grids Package need to be supported by swift implementation, application and enforcement of existing EU legislation and an accelerated roll-out of interoperable digital smart grids.
