European Net-Zero Academies should boost training and address skills shortages as part of the Net-Zero Industry Act

The Renewable Energy Skills partnership, which includes T&D Europe, has issued a statement of 10 recommendations on the set-up of Net-Zero Industry Academies, as suggested by the Commission in the draft Net-Zero Industry Act.

Diederik Peereboom, our Secretary-General, stated: ‘’The wider electricity stakeholders in the Renewable Energy Skills Partnerships are working to ensure we are involved in the discussions leading up to decisive actions for developing quality skills and attracting talent in manufacturing jobs needed to secure the net-zero transition.’’

The Renewable Energy Skills Partnership is urgently calling on the European Commission to take concrete actions to ensure that the European Net-Zero Academies:

• Accelerate training programmes across the EU.
• Address urgent skills shortages.
• Build on existing sectoral, initiatives.
• Prioritise net-zero sectors with critical skills shortages.
• Foster a comprehensive framework, mapping all net-zero skills initiatives.
• Strengthen synergies across net-zero technologies.
• Identify emerging topics for trainings.
• Provide the necessary funding.
• Strive for cross-border recognition of qualifications.
• Industry and relevant stakeholders, such as the Renewable Energy Skills Partnership, should be an integral part of the European Net-Zero Academies framework’s governance mechanism.
