Europe’s electricity demand is set to soar by 60% by 2030. This figure, driven by Europe’s energy transition, is set to place a new wave of pressure on Europe’s electricity grid. Without electricity grids, this energy transition will not succeed.
The European Grids Package, presented by the European Commission in December 2025, elevates electricity networks to a strategic enabler of competitiveness, decarbonisation, and security. It proposes a more European approach to planning, streamlines permitting, clarifies grid-connection rules, mobilises investment, and complements an already robust and modern EU policy framework that has been steadily evolving to address Europe’s energy and climate ambitions.
