Wednesday, 3rd of June, marked an important step forward for Europe’s energy transition. The publication of the European Commission’s Strategic Roadmap on Digitalisation and AI was published, highlighting the crucial role of advanced technologies in building a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable energy system.
At T&D Europe, we welcome and strongly support this initiative. As a concrete contribution, we have officially joined two major initiatives launched under the Strategic Roadmap, reinforcing our commitment to a smarter, more resilient electricity system.
🔹 We have joined AI.grids project, a European initiative bringing together 48 organisations to develop and deploy AI models for the management of electricity grids. The project, set up under the aegis of, and chaired by DG ENER, aims to develop AI foundational models for European grids, kick-starting the effort foreseen in the Strategic Roadmap.
🔹 We have also signed, alongside 14 European energy and data centre associations, a Declaration of Intent on the sustainable integration of data centres into the EU energy system. This Declaration reflects a shared commitment to cooperate on a voluntary basis to promote principles, good practices, and joint activities supporting the sustainable integration of data centres.
T&D Europe’s Secretary General, Diederik Peereboom, attended the signature ceremony this afternoon at the Berlaymont building, marking this important milestone.
These initiatives represent concrete steps towards implementing the Strategic Roadmap, which rightly highlights the key role of digitalisation and AI in enabling a resilient, efficient and decarbonised energy system.
At T&D Europe, we believe that unlocking the full potential of these technologies requires:
✅ digitalisation across the entire grid lifecycle
✅ a modern and flexible regulatory framework
✅ a trusted and interoperable data ecosystem
We look forward to actively contributing to these collaborative efforts and working with EU institutions and stakeholders to turn ambition into action.
