The Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA) marks the next phase in the debate on the future of Europe. As a first flagship initiative, it aims to strengthen Europe’s industrial base, support decarbonisation, and enhance resilience and strategic autonomy amid growing global competition.
Europe’s electricity infrastructure is the backbone of our current and and future prosperity. It is critical that Europe translates this into policy measures that support and strengthen competitiveness and resilience. While Europe remains strong in future-oriented sectors such as smart grids, maintaining this leadership requires a clear and workable business framework for the twin transition of decarbonisation and digitalisation.
Demand-side measures can help address distorted competition and support European value creation, but the IAA is not a stand-alone solution. Its success will depend on strong alignment with existing legislation, including the Net-Zero Industry Act, Critical Raw Materials Act, European Chips Act, Public Procurement Act and Cybersecurity Act.
T&D Europe’s position paper highlights key asks to be reflected in the revision of the legislative proposal.
