European Commission publishes REPower EU Plan

On 18 May, the European Commission published its long-awaited REPower EU Plan to transform the energy system. T&D Europe welcomes the range of initiatives to make Europe independent from fossil fuels before 2030 and to speed up the development of renewables.

Jochen Kreusel, T&D Europe’s Deputy Vice-President and Chair of the Working Group on Energy Policy, stated: ”The proposals to combine targeted and smart investments by boosting interconnection and infrastructure needs are key to achieve the REPower EU’s objectives. Recognising renewable energy as an overriding public interest will also have a positive impact in permitting for major projects. The members of T&D Europe welcome and support the ambitious actions to significantly scale up and speed up investments. Future-proofing the infrastructure will strengthen how we produce, transport and distribute energy, including hydrogen, and ensure security of supply.”

As a next step, T&D Europe will conduct a more detailed review of the proposal and discuss necessary follow up activities within the relevant working groups.
