EU proposes new rules on SF6 in switchgear

On 5 April 2022, the European Commission published its proposal for a revision of the EU F-gas Regulation, which will contribute to reducing emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and making Europe climate-neutral by 2050.

The text includes a proposal to restrict the use of SF6 in certain switchgear applications. The T&D Europe Gases for Switchgear Working Group began the review of the proposal during its meeting on 3 May 2020 in Brussels.

Over the coming weeks it will assess its implications for members and work towards an industry position on various aspects of the proposal.
