Europe stands at a decisive juncture. Electrification is not a choice but a necessity for achieving climate neutrality, strengthening competitiveness and guaranteeing energy security. The upcoming Electrification Action Plan must propose concrete political, financial and regulatory commitments.
By investing in digitalisation, improving planning processes and developing the right skills, Europe can build a resilient, future-proof energy system that serves its citizens, empowers its industries, and reinforces its global leadership in the clean energy transition. The success of Europe’s energy transition will be measured by the speed and scale of electrification, and by the strength of the grids that enable it.
“The EU needs to make electricity and electrification more attractive than other less climate friendly energy carriers. Failing this we risk building up more bureaucracy without delivering a measurable increase in electrification”, according to Diederik Peereboom, secretary general of T&D Europe.
In this position paper the T&D industry stresses the need for political, financial and regulatory commitments, digitalisation, energy security, planning and skills.
