Do you have any insights or advice for other women who may not have considered this sector as a possible opportunity for them?
If you’re a woman interested in pursuing a career in energy, my advice is to educate yourself about the industry and its opportunities. The energy sector is a large and dynamic industry that encompasses many different fields, from renewable energy and electrical engineering to policy, human resources, quality and finance. This means that there is a wide range of career paths and job roles available, so you’re sure to find something that aligns with your interests, skills, and passions for your future.
It’s important to remember that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to a career in energy, and the industry is constantly evolving. However, by being proactive, staying informed, and building connections, you can gain a strong understanding of the industry and position yourself for success.
Follow your passion.
Do you have any insights into what could be done to encourage more women into this sector?
For sure, increasing visibility of female leaders would help. Highlighting successful women in the industry can inspire other women to pursue careers in energy distribution and demonstrate that it is possible for women to succeed in this field.
Also, it is important to encourage women to pursue STEM careers: Encouraging women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) this will help to increase the pool of women entering the sector.
I would encourage fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture. Creating a workplace culture that values diversity and inclusiveness can help to attract and retain women in the industry. This could include promoting diversity in hiring and promotion decisions and addressing any gender-based biases.
What do you as a woman bring to this sector?
I feel that I bring a unique set of experiences, perspectives, and leadership qualities to the industry. I bring diversity of thought and a fresh perspective to decision making, which I like to believe has led to more innovative and inclusive solutions not only within our company, but within the industry.
Within the industry, it is a strong motivation of mine to prioritise creating a positive and supportive work environment, which aims to lead to improved employee morale and better teamwork. Additionally, having more women in leadership roles helps to challenge gender biases and promotes gender equality, which can have a positive impact on the industry as a whole.
