T&D Europe's mission is to support its members by representing the views of Europe's grid technology providers on key EU policy and regulatory issues. This is only possible with the help of our members. National associations are at the heart of T&D Europe. A very good reason to get to know them better!
T&D Europe sat down with Rodolphe de Beaufort, Deputy Chief Executive at GIMELEC, our French association.
What is your mission and who are your members?
GIMELEC represents the companies of the French electrodigital sector. The 212 members of GIMELEC design, manufacture and roll out electrification, automation and digitalisatoin for the industry, buildings, mobility, energy and digital infrastructure.
Sixty members of GIMELEC are dedicated to the T&D Europe Sector in Europe, from the HV to the meters. Our Energy Committee represents 80% of the market and develop high-level relationship with our main utiliites (EDF, RTE and ENEDIS) as well as important stakeholders like the regulator (CRE), French ministries (Econolgy and Energy Transition, Finance and Education) and local territiries authorities.
How do you see the economic evolution of the T&D sector in Spain?
GIMELEC is actively working to improve visibility on grid infrastructure investment, at the equipment level. As many countries in Europe, the French market is dynamic, with 30%+ growth on orders in 2022 compared to 2020.
The future of this market also seems very promising, with the development photovoltaic, electric vehicles, electrification of industry and nuclear development. Grids are also ageing with 70 years old in average: a strong refurbishment plan will have to materialise in the coming years. Securing these investments is key for our profession.
How does T&D Europe contribute and compliment your association?
Raw materials, environmental & geopolitical issues are becoming more (and more) pressing for the energy transition of Europe. More than ever, strong partnerships between manufacturers and utilities are key to deliver: T&D Europe is the critical platform which will aggregate national association’s position and advocate for a coordinated vision, paving the way for European sovereignty on energy infrastructure and supply chains.
